Hurricane Melissa, a devastating Category 5 storm, struck Jamaica on October 28, 2025.
The storm stands as the most powerful ever documented in Jamaica, leading to extensive destruction and considerable loss of life. The impact on the island nation has been severe, affecting human life, infrastructure, and the economy. The storm damaged or destroyed tens of thousands of houses, forcing more than 30,000 families to leave their homes. Some families have no option but to sleep in roofless houses, having nowhere else to find shelter. Our community demonstrates its real strength when we come together to support neighbors going through tough times. At You.org, our mission is to offer support to individuals affected in Melissa.
In response to recent hurricanes devastating Jamaica, You.org launched the Jamaica Hurricane Response Project in 2025.
Our mission is to provide emergency relief, rebuild communities, and restore hope to those impacted by the storms. We mobilize resources to deliver food, shelter, medical support, and long-term recovery assistance to the hardest-hit areas.
Our Goal is to assist at least fifty families on December 24th with either food packages or gift cards of $100 usd. each for the holiday. We recognize that the recovery from this catastrophic storm will require time and significant effort, and we remain committed to providing ongoing support to families throughout the rebuilding process. We cannot do this alone. We are asking for your compassion and generosity to help us reach those who need it most.

Eligibility criteria for aid: - Residency in hurricane-affected Jamaican areas. - Verified impact: home damage, income loss, or displacement. - Priority for displaced persons, single parents, elderly, disabled, and low-income families. - Willingness to participate in recovery initiatives. Services include: - Rapid distribution of food, water, and supplies. - Shelter provision and home repairs. - Medical and psychological support. - Coordination with local partners for sustained recovery.
